Let's Put David K Lappin to the Test

Melvin, The Festival Series: You have done so many podcasts by now together with Dara. What keeps you guys still on the tip of your toes regarding new content?

David: Dara and I are always on the lookout for great guests. There are so many elements to the show so that keeps us on our toes. Whether it’s somebody well-positioned to speak about the latest hot topic, an interview with a player about their career or a strategy guest, we are always looking for meaningful, impactful content that will resonate with our audience.

Melvin, The Festival Series: Franke has been part of the most recent podcast after the initial plan was to have him on earlier. A podcast where he explains a lot about The Festival Series and the thoughts behind it: the event, mainly attracts players who want a short poker holiday trip, enjoying their time abroad. You, as a Malta expert, what would you recommend of doing outside the poker venue?

David: Yes, Franke finally made it! Malta is a great poker destination for lots of reasons. I think sun-worshippers will be happy and they should definitely have some nice sea-swims and maybe take a boat trip to Gozo or Comino. Like any destination, there are tourist traps but if you make a bit of effort, you can find some great bars and restaurants. Personally, I would recommend: Visit to Mdina in the centre of the island and a walk around The Three Cities, the two most unspoiled parts of medieval Malta.

Dara O'Kearney & David K Lappin

Melvin, The Festival Series: Upcoming Sunday, Unibet is offering an exclusive 1 euro satellite without the option the rebuy. The guarantee is a Main Event seat for The Festival Malta of 550 euros. What would be three tips from your and Dara’s side for such events?

David: This is an amazing game that will definitely overlay. No matter - it will be great to have somebody in the mix who qualified for the price of a packet of crisps. In terms of advice, it’s important to realise that this tournament is winner-take-all so it should be played like a cash game with no ICM implications. For that reason too, I would play from the start and try to build a stack right away. Finally, I would say to anyone thinking that it is too small a tournament around which to build a session, why not play it on the Unibet Poker mobile client? The user interface is fantastic and you can easily multi-task.

Melvin, The Festival Series: Online qualifiers are key for events such as ours, to give people from all around the world, the opportunity to qualify for our event. Often because it’s out of the usual budget to make the trip without such a qualifier, or of course, the regulars who will always hunt for that package or seat. Do you guys play such satellites for live events you visit in general?

David: It’s a mix. There are certainly festivals that I would never miss and so I play the satellites for those, hoping to win a seat for cheap. There are also festivals that I would like to attend but would not unless I won the package. The great thing about this satellite is it will not attract regulars or strong higher stake players because the guy-in is too small. That makes it an even better spot for recreational players who want to go to Malta!
